Safety Tips for Biking Enthusiasts

With a master's degree in health information systems from the University of Pittsburgh in Philadelphia, Jason Damon has worked in different capacities with various Pittsburgh firms over the years. A trader of futures contracts, Jason Damon enjoys spending his free time biking.

Besides being an excellent way to exercise the body, biking also offers a strong promise of adventure to many individuals. However, there are safety equipment and tips that every biking enthusiast must know:

1. Helmet

The most effective way to protect yourself from a severe head injury while biking is to wear a helmet. Choose a helmet that fits your head and covers your forehead. The straps should also be tightly secured.

2. Accessories

It is equally important that you take adequate measures to prevent the chances of causing injuries to other pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. You could install a bell to give pedestrians a fair warning. You could also install lights to help you overcome visibility issues and notify other road users of your approach. Besides taking these measures, consider wearing a reflective jacket too. It could prove quite useful while you cycle through tunnels or during late hours.

3. Condition

Make sure that your bicycle is in excellent condition before you hit the road significantly reduces the chances of running into any trouble. Inspect the wheels, test the brakes, and try out the lights. It would also be better if you took it out for a quick spin around the yard before you leave.

4. Focus

When biking, make sure to approach bends and intersections with caution and keep an eye out for any sudden traffic. If you ever need to use your phone while cycling, consider pulling up by the roadside first.

The History and Function of the NASDAQ

Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jason Damon has developed research-driven strategies as a day trader. With a strong interest in the financial markets, Pittsburgh professional Jason Damon focuses on pathways to generate consistent profits.

The National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ) was established in 1971 to pioneer a system of electronically posted quotes. The over-the-counter (OTC) stocks did not meet the threshold for listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and other larger exchanges. Instead, the stocks had been traded via phone by specialized dealers, which made the stocks challenging for the public to access.

The streamlined electronic access offered by NASDAQ helped the stocks gain much greater traction. In 1975, this success led the exchange to create its own listing requirements and separate large-cap and small-cap companies.

Known for its tech-weighted listings, NASDAQ is distinct from the NYSE in not having a physical location. In addition, unlike the NYSE, which functions as an auction, NASDAQ is set up as a dealers market in which market makers facilitate direct trades between buyers and sellers.

How Exercise Helps Improve Mental Health

A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based futures trader with a background in IT, Jason Damon holds a bachelor's degree in natural sciences and a master's degree in health information systems from the University of Pittsburgh. Jason Damon enjoys competing in triathlons and marathons and is an advocate for mental health.

Regular exercise can have both physical and mental benefits. In addition to the physical benefits of burning calories and strengthening muscles, exercising can alleviate depression, anxiety, ADHD, and even PTSD and trauma.

Exercising promotes positive changes in the brain, such as neural growth and reduced inflammation. This, in turn, helps individuals feel calmer. Exercise also releases mood-enhancing endorphins and can serve as a distraction from negative thoughts. Several studies have shown exercise to be as effective as antidepressants in fighting mild to moderate depression.

Moreover, those who experience anxiety can take away the same mood-boosting benefits of regular exercise, especially when it is combined with mindfulness. Beyond alleviating symptoms of mental health disorders, regular exercise is linked to higher self-esteem, better sleep, more energy, and sharper memory.

Why SQL is a Popular Tool for Data Analytics

Woman working with documents, tablet pc and notebook and selecting sql.

A highly skilled Pittsburgh IT professional with vast technical experience, Jason Damon worked in various IT roles in different organizations before venturing into self-employment. Throughout his career, Jason Damon worked as a business analyst at Pittsburgh-based Celerity IT where he utilized Structured Query Language (SQL) to extract data from various sources for data analysis.

SQL is a powerful and dynamic programming language with strong database management capabilities and can simultaneously interact with multiple databases. SQL is popular because of its ability to create and interact with databases within a short period of time. SQL allows users to utilize advanced tools and dashboards for data analytics. Some of the most common proprietary tools that run on the SQL framework include MySQL, Microsoft Access, and PostgreSQL.

As opposed to other programs, SQL uses simple English commands to perform complex data analytics functions. This makes it ideal for users who require a comprehensive data analysis tool but have limited knowledge of advanced computer programming languages. The dynamic base infrastructure supports intuitive SQL dashboards and powerful reporting tools which make it simpler to communicate complex instructions to databases and perform data manipulation in seconds. In addition, SQL makes it possible to display data in different formats which allows data analysts to produce various reports.

What Exactly Is a Futures Contract?

Jason Damon is an experienced application and business analyst who has worked in Pittsburgh and St. Louis. Currently based in Pittsburgh, Jason Damn works as a trader with a focus on buying and selling futures contracts. These investment vehicles can seem somewhat complicated for individuals who are not full-time investors.

A futures contract is actually a legal agreement between two individuals to sell a particular asset at a specified price and at a predetermined time in the future. The person who buys the futures contract becomes obligated to purchase the asset according to the agreement, and the seller must deliver it. With a futures contract, investors can speculate on the directional movement of the market to buy or sell at a profit.

For example, imagine buying a futures contract at $55 that will expire in 2 months. At the end of those two months, the asset now trades at $70. The person who owns the futures contract purchases the asset at $55, and thus makes $15. However, there is always the chance that the value of the asset could fall and the investor is forced to pay more than what the asset is worth.

Swimming to Improve Physical Fitness

After nine years of working as an analyst, Jason Damon is now a self-employed trader in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Outside of work, Jason Damon’s hobbies include swimming and participating in triathlons in and around Pittsburgh.

Swimming, which is one event in a triathlon, is one of the best exercises for getting a low-impact workout as it includes cardio and works all of the muscles.

Water makes a person buoyant (it holds the person up), so they naturally will float (if not flailing around wildly). Moreover, because the person is not pounding on the pavement or jumping up and down while swimming, they reduce the impact, and thus stress, on their knees and other joints.

Swimming requires the use of the majority of the muscles in the body. In addition to using the arms and legs in the water, the latissimus dorsi muscle (also known as the swimmer’s muscle) extending from the back to the side of the body assists the person with moving through the water as well.

Finally, swimming is a great cardio workout. It requires the person master breathing by teaching the body to adapt and learn to take in more oxygen while expelling carbon dioxide upon exhalation. The culmination of better breathing is a lower resting heart rate and blood pressure.

Some Common SQL Server Monitoring Tools

The recipient of an MS in health information systems from the University of Pittsburgh, Jason Damon is a former business analyst at Celerity IT in Pittsburgh. Jason Damon has handled critical responsibilities such as database management and system troubleshooting and is experienced in SQL programming language.

The most widely used query language, Structured Query Language (SQL) is used for sending requests (queries) for data or processed information from a database that contains structured data arranged in columns and rows (relational database). Once the data is received it may be assessed or manipulated, and the new changes (if present) can be stored on the database. Such a database is also called a server. Sometimes, problems such as a huge lapse between the time a query is sent and when it reaches the database management system, a delay in execution of newly added changes, the blocking of a query, or the contention of database resources can occur, which are known as server performance issues. Avoiding such situations can be accomplished by deploying an SQL server monitoring tool which helps track the health of the server, and also provides information to address potential performance issues when necessary.

Some SQL server monitoring tools (like Lepidolite SQL Server Auditing) are only compatible with one operating system (in this case Windows). Many others, such as dbWatch Database Control, run on Mac OS, Windows, and Linux. Apex SQL Monitor, Alera RMM, SQL Power Tools, dbForge Monitor, and SentryOne SQL Sentry are some other common monitoring tools.
